Facial Animation Marketing and PR for DI4D

The client

Grammatik delivered facial animation marketing and PR for Glasgow and Los Angeles-based company, DI4D — a world leader in 4D facial animation technology, providing the world’s biggest studios in the video game and film industry precise facial performance data used to drive the movement of CG digital doubles and humans. Its technology has driven digital humans in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, F1 2023, Venom and Blade Runner 2049 to name just a few.

The brief

A specialist technology company with great ambition, DI4D needed an agency to plug in and act as its internal PR and marketing team. Like many growing businesses, the leadership team at DI4D found themselves ‘time-poor’ and short on internal expertise when it came to executing a communications plan with impact. Rising to the challenge, Grammatik took the reins in 2019 and quickly established a clear strategy for promoting DI4D’s services across a variety of channels.

The Grammatik team took the lead across all aspects of communications and set-out a blueprint for showcasing what the company had to offer. A specific part of the brief was to launch a brand new service called PURE4D, which enables game developers to create high fidelity digital double characters for their games at scale. DI4D’s facial animation services for the film and games industries were already well renowned and the company had a reputation for excellent service and polished, realistic final results. Grammatik’s job was to amplify awareness and help drive new business.

The strategy

Grammatik understood that the services on offer were both specialist and technical. The market for facial animation is also a competitive space with various companies offering to deliver a similar service for film and games. As such the strategy needed to be geared towards helping DI4D rise above the noise and be seen as a partner of choice for potential customers. The agency recommended a focus on the ‘benefits’ for potential customers rather than becoming overly fixated on technical ‘features’ detail.

The team worked with DI4D to establish a set of brand values for the business as well as motivating customer messages to run through all communications. These included DI4D’s deep expertise in the space, the company’s excellent, tailored level of service as well as the proprietary technology that gives it an edge over their competitors .

With messaging established, Grammatik worked with its extensive industry and journalist network to power awareness of DI4D across a variety of channels. These included multiple thought leadership pieces, case study creation, event speaking opportunities, social media curation as well as regular press office function for news releases and media relations.
